Unit Tatami

Unit tatamis look like traditional tatami mats and can be laid in the same way but are cheaper. The core is made out of pressed cellulose (no glues or other sdditives used), covered with a mat of Igusa straw and sewn together with a black cotton ribbon (Beri).

Benefits for you

This tatami is only 1.5cm thick and therefore perfectly made for covering floors, for example in areas for a tea ceremony or meditation. If a whole floor is covered, there is no difference to traditional tatami mats noticeable.

Hook-and-loop fastener

Hook-and-loop fasteners are fixed on the bottom side of the tatami to easily connect the mats. Attached nubs prevent the mat from slippering. A firmly connected surface, easy to remove, can be designed. These connectable tatamis are suitable for living rooms as well as for dojos or events that should have a distinct Japanese flair.

Important notes

Please don’t step onto the tatami with shoes on – only barefoot or with socks! This is intended to protect the mats from dirt and the material from being damaged. The mats should not be exposed to humidity or moistness.
